Inspired by the exploration of shadowbox manipulation. Its compliment, Sister Orange, had already been made in a similar fashion but lacked additional textural elements. Blue, incorporates metal and stone work inter-woven against a cowry shell background. The use of a masculine cobalt canvas in contrast to copper painted cowry shells, created a noteworthy effect. The knife in the design was purchased from a metal worker at a festival in Boerne, Texas. I was elated once he finished making the knife because I instantly knew that it was my third textural element.
